A bustling mining hub until 1907, Calico today is a 480-acre ghost town of abandoned silver, borax, and gold mines, saloons, general stores, and other buildings that once served a population of 1,200 residents. Located between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is the only public university serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. CSUSB offers more than 70 degrees and certificate programs from its five colleges and is one of the largest teacher-training institutions in the country.
